CATHAY-KERIS STUDIO

The development of Malay films in Malaya is suspected to have its beginning in the 1930s, based on the fact that two Malay films, Nelayan and Laila Majnun, were made during this period. The popularity of Malay movies was evident shortly before the outbreak of WWII, when Indonesian movies began to catch on with Malayan viewers. After WWII, Cathay, which by then already owned a network of cinemas in Malaya also rode on the boom in Malay movies by forming Cathay-Keris.

 Cathay Organization was established on 18 July 1935 by the late Dato’ Loke Wan Tho and his mother, the late Mrs. Loke Cheng Kim as Associated Theatres Ltd. In 1936, the company opened its first cinema in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Pavilion with 1200 seats. The year 1939 saw the landmark Cathay Building opened in Singapore with the Cathay Cinema premiering Sir Alexander Korda’s Four Feathers.

 In 1952, Ho Ah Loke opened a studio in Tempines Road, Singapore, calling his company Rimau Film Productions. Ho owned a few small theatres through his earlier venture as a film distributor. The company was renamed Cathay-Keris Film Production with its studio in East Coast Road, Singapore. This studio produced its own films in the Malay. These were former barracks occupied by the Japanese and were converted into processing labs, sound studios, offices and even a canteen. That year, Cathay –Keris produced Singapore’s first color film, Buloh Perindu.  More than 100 films were made at Cathay-Keris’s studio 1953 to 1973 including five Pontianak movies that were Pontianak (1957), Dendam Pontianak (1957), Sumpah Pontianak (1958), Pontianak Kembali (1963), and Pontianak Gua Musang (1964). Sadly the first two classic Pontianak films are long lost.

Facing competition from television and the loss of the Indonesia market due to the Confrontation, Cathay-Keris retrenched 45 studio staff in 1965, and a further 17 staff in 1966. In 1967, Shaw closed down its Malay Film Productions. A few years later, in 1973, Cathay-Keris produced its last film, Satu Titik Di-Garisan, marking an end to Malay film production in Singapore. For the next few years, the studio focused on production of advertisements, public relations film lets and news reports before stopping operation in 1977.

Pengertian Qurban Anda

Alhamdulillah Hari Raya Aidiladha atau dikenali sebagai hari qurban telah berlalu lebih kurang 3hari dan hari. Rumah aku tahun ni buat qurban.. Tapi bukan family kami..family sebelah ayah iaitu pakcik aku. Lembu tersebut sampai malam sebelum tibanya esok untuk diqurbankan. Agak mengganas juga lah. Mungkin lembu tu tahu dia nak diqurbankan. 

Kali ini entry bukan nak cerita pasal lembu itu.. tapi aku nak cerita makna pengorbanan tersebut. Dalam erti kata lain apa yang korang semua tahu dengan makna qurban?

Kalau korang tidak mampu untuk qurbankan seeokor lembu mahupun kambing, korbankanlah sifat buruk, tabiat yang tidak berfaedah kalian semua.. Lakukan pengorbanan yang begitu berharga untuk diri kalian. Maka secara tidak langsung hari raya qurban anda akan lebih bermakna.

Kalau anda selama ini punya tabiat malas, korban rasa malas anda dan gantikan dengan rasa rajin. Maka penggantian yang baru itu akan lebih bermakna sekiranya anda rajin berusaha menuju kejayaan.

  III.        I have Insomnia so; I can’t sleep at night like other people.

So, I promise try to balance my life to maintain my mind and physical health.

  IV.        I am very lazy to find what I should do and what should not I do.

So, I promise to myself to seeking continuous self-improvement.

    V.        Sometimes I not speak in respectively to my friends.

So, I promise to myself to being a good communicator in daily life.

Good Human Relations.

     I.        Sometimes I can’t handle my emotion in right way.

So, I promise to myself to managing my emotions productively.

    II.        My best friend's always say that I difficult to admitting my mistake.

            So, I promise to myself to admitting my mistake if I make a mistake.

  III.        For the past five years, I have a high confident level. But when I entered UiTM Melaka, my confident level was reduced.

            So, I promise to myself to gain back my confident level and maintaining it.

  IV.        My friends always say that I not like to smile and laugh.

So, I promise to myself to always smiling and acting cheerful to make my life wonderful.

    V.        Maybe sometimes I not sharing the ideas and information that I get.

So, I promise to myself to sharing ideas, skills, experiences and pertinent information.

Superior Work Performance.

     I.        I have little bit problem when work in team.

So, I promise to being a team player for get the best result and achievement.

    II.        I often spent time on things that wasted my precious time and not give any benefit to me.

So, I promise to myself to doing top priority work first that give a big benefit to me.

  III.        Sometimes I made a mistake on my work.

So, I promise to producing error-free work to get the best result on my job or work.

  IV.        I admit that I have a talent on creative thing such as music instrument, writing poetry and crafting.

So, I promise to be more creative and innovative in order to give a best performance on my work.
