CREATIVE WRITING

A BIG MISTAKE

I had an important meeting that morning and I had carelessly left my bag at home. It was a big mistake. The women I met at the door spoke with a peculiar accent. She invited me in and introduced me to her associates. As I took my seat at the other end of table, the older man cleared his throat and said, “Let us look at your proposal, Mr Adam. If the contents are worthy and meet out requirement, you may well have just made your fortune”.

I carefully took out the hardbound sheets of typewritten paper from my leather case and handed it over to his wizened hands, saying, “I am very confident you will find this to your utmost satisfaction”.

The three of them took their own sweet time poring through the pages, constantly throwing their silly questions at me, and asking for unnecessary clarifications on the most crystal clear issues. After an hour, they put aside the papers. The women pushed back strands of stray hair away from her almond-shaped eyes as she said, “Well, we have to admit that your proposal seems good on paper, Mr. Adam. But our worry is the time factor. Perhaps you should show us your execution plan and its workings so that we may arrive at a firm agreement”.

I looked at them and mournfully shook my head. Somehow I just knew that not bringing my bag was a big mistake!

A STRANGE DREAM

I had a dream last night. It was scary. I was sitting quietly by a river and I see this old man doddering along slowly. Suddenly, he was beside me. The old looked at me quizzically, and nodded his head wisely.

Then, he shouted angrily, "Look here, you! You better speak softly to your baby!"

I didn't this old man but I was extremely awed by him. Next, I blurted mindlessly, "You mean I can't talk harshly? Or even fiercely? Or how about furiously?"

"No! Heed my worthy advice. Henceforth, you shall speak accordingly or you shall find yourself trapped somewhere quite unpleasant".

And the vision before my eyes changed instantly and I found myself in an incredibly hot furnace. The heat seemed to scorch mercilessly and my whole body trembled uncontrollably.

The old man cried menacingly, "You won't last long in this place! Well, will you now listen to me?"

I stood silently for sometime, absolutely sure that something was very wrong. Finally I remembered what it was.

I looked at the old man unblinkingly and said, "But I don't have a baby!"

THE GREAT CONSPIRACY

The two older boys wanted to leave the house as quietly and as quickly as possible. Their little brother would want to come along but they didn't want him to. The two boys felt he was too young and only a nuisance in their secret meetings. They slipped out of the house without hindrance or interference and quickly made their way to the secret shed where they met their gang.

"Good," said their leader, "you have not brought your little brother along. Today's meeting is very important and your bother would have spoilt it for everyone, like he always does".

"We gave him the slip this time but it was not easy," replied the older of the two brothers. So what's today's meeting about?"

The leader him raised both his hands and asked for quiet. "Gentleman, do be seated and no noise please. Today's meeting is very important. There is a dark and dangerous conspiracy going on or I'm very much deluded. We have to find a way to solve this riddle but I am afraid it won't be easy."

"What is this conspiracy?" asked a boy dressed in a t-shirt and jeans.

"It is this, "replied the leader, pausing importantly and lowering his voice dramatically. "Now, pay attention and listen carefully. Why was there no 'Alphabet Song' on Friday's episode of Sesame Street?"
